2014 DAAP Fashion Show

The University of Cincinnati Fashion Design department's 63rd Annual Fashion show was spectacular! I'm truly amazed at how perfectly the faculty and students pull it off, year after year, always to a sell-out crowd! It was so very exciting for me to see the senior's work, which I helped critiqued a mere 2 weeks prior, become so polished with finishing touches. Since then, the perfect accessories and shoes were added to really complete the collections - and of course, they were showcased on gorgeous models, who are always outstanding. It's obvious that the job is not complete until the show goes live. The highly professional dedication to the final execution is quite impressive.

In addition to the always-fabulous Fashion Design garments on the catwalk, students majoring in Product Development paraded their work on the runway, for the first time ever. This was exciting, not only because this was the first time seeing this work in action, but because it put the spotlight on this very relevant and fairly new major. Product Development students perform research and trend analysis to create new product lines, working through the process of bringing consumer-driven fashion goods to the marketplace. This provides a balanced contrast to the work of Fashion Design students who focus on the design and construction of garments, form and function, and a design's expression and how it moves and fits the body. The functional thinking behind this particular body of Product Development work was incredibly interesting - addressing specific needs such as women with prosthetics, and their unique needs from an apparel perspective, or creative solutions for how women can conceal firearms on their bodies.

UC's Fashion Design program in the College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning is continuously ranked among the top programs in the nation and year after year. These students all demonstrated why such high marks are so well deserved. Congratulations to the class of 2014 - I have no doubt that tremendous opportunities await you throughout the industry and the world!
