3 Need-to-Know Trends in Packaging Design

There are many significant design trends hitting the product packaging world that you should know about. Here are three to get you started.

What you see is what you get
We’re always in a hurry. People want to know exactly what’s in the box...and quickly. Packaging today must instantly engage and visually impact consumers. Products are showcased boldly, beautifully (through macro photography) –and minimally– creating a larger than life, up-close and personal experience.

The look of luxury
There aren’t many combinations of color that convey the aura of elegance and beauty, quite like black and gold. Paired together, this duo has been, and continues to be, the go-to color palette for premium, high-end products. Why? Because this enduring medley has forever conveyed affluence and elegance. Layer on delicate, ornately etched foil patterns to convey subtle sophistication.

Intriguing and informative
Did you know that we process visuals 60,000 times faster than text? This might be a contributing factor to the movement we’ve seen lately from copy-heavy packaging to the use of simplistic and engaging infographics. This emerging trend is prevalent on a wide range of packages – from food and beverage to apparel and accessories. Infographics create an interesting application with consumer product goods. It's an unusual approach to disrupt the space and communicate a message in a visually, playful way.
